Dr. Dea Vidović at the Public Presentation of the Publication Cultural Policy Pathways

Jun 3, 2025 | CULTMED, News

Dr. Dea Vidović participated in the panel session Which policies for the future of culture?, held online on Thursday, May 29, 2025, as part of the final conference of D-Factor, a training program coordinated by the Italian cultural organisations Fondazione Emblema, Accademia Teatro alla Scala, and Liv.in.g. The session was organised to publicly present the publication Cultural Policy Pathways, published in English and available as a free PDF. Panel participants included Eleonora De Caroli and Cristina Carlini from Liv.in.g, as well as Fanny Bouquerel, one of the authors of the publication. The discussion was moderated by Giuliana Ciancio, curator of the editorial project.

Using the structure of the publication as a starting point, the conversation explored some of the most pressing questions currently facing the cultural sector: How can we shape transformative and participatory cultural policies? What tensions exist between reality and its interpretation, and how do they influence the shaping of culture? What does it mean today to talk about pluralistic democracy in culture? In this way, the discussion served as a platform for collective reflection on the vision, strategies, and practices of policy-making aimed at contributing to cultural and social change at the European level.

The publication Cultural Policy Pathways is divided into three parts. The second part, viewed from the international perspectives of authors such as Dea Vidović (Croatia), Marie Le Sourd (Belgium/France), Fanny Bouquerel (France), Lorna Duguid (Scotland), Mey El Borni (Tunisia), and Sara Paolella (Italy), addresses issues such as cross-border cultural mobility, bottom-up policies, cultural decentralization, intergenerational dialogue, and the search for models that can overcome neoliberal pressures in cultural production. Dr. Dea Vidović is the author of the article Transformative Cultural Policy.
