As part of the Research-Based Learning Day held at the Third Gymnasium, the Institute for Development and International Relations (IRMO) hosted third- and fourth-year students on April 16, giving them the opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the work of researchers and the various fields of research within the Institute.
Staff members from all departments of the Institute – Dr Ivana Keser (Department for Resource Economics, Environmental Protection and Regional Development), Ivana Biondić Jazbec (Department for European Policies), Leona Knežević Mužić (Department for International Economic and Political Relations), and Lucija Gegić (Department for Culture and Communications) – presented the scope of work of their departments and shared their personal experiences and career paths. Their stories were particularly valuable for students who are facing important decisions about their education and professional orientation.
After the introductory presentations, Lucija Gegić, herself a former student of the Third Gymnasium, shared her professional journey with the students, from her school days to her current role as a research assistant at IRMO. Following a brief presentation on the projects she has worked on so far, Lucija remained in an informal discussion with the students, answering questions and talking about the future of science and research.
The visit was part of activities aimed at promoting science among young people, as well as the Institute’s open day. Students had the opportunity to communicate directly with researchers, learn about IRMO’s interdisciplinary work, and gain insight into the opportunities offered by a scientific career.
