The CULTURELINK Centre / IRMO, in cooperation with the Centre for Democracy and Law Miko Tripalo, is inviting you to the memorial conference “Cultural Diversity, Networks, and Cultural Policies: The Legacy of Biserka Cvjetičanin’s Cultural Optimism” in honour of our long-time and respected colleague, Dr. Biserka Cvjetičanin, a prominent scholar whose work in the field of cultural policy has left a deep mark on the local and international scene. The memorial conference will take place on 4 October 2024, at Kuća Europe, starting at 10.00 a.m.

Biserka’s rich professional experience has been marked by her dedicated work in the field of cultural policy research, to which she left a significant contribution, both nationally and internationally. She has published around 300 academic papers, books and articles on cultural development, cultural policies, cultural diversity and intercultural communication, in Croatian, English and French. She was an avid networker who believed goals can be achieved more easily through cooperation. Her long-term involvement in international and Croatian networks and collaborative platforms such as Culturelink or the Miko Tripalo Centre exemplify her commitment to networking and cooperation.

Biserka Cvjetičanin was the coordinator of Culturelink – the Network of Networks for Research and Cooperation in Cultural Development, during the entire period of its functioning. The network brought together more than 2000 members from all continents and was the forerunner among network organizations in culture. Biserka’s dedicated work concerning Culturelink ensured broad international visibility and a cooperation platform for the cultural and academic sector of the Republic of Croatia and enabled the affirmation of a whole range of researchers in cultural policy.

To honour her legacy, IRMO formally established CULTURELINK – the Centre for Research in Cultural Policy, Development and Cooperation in 2024, thus further fostering the continuous efforts that Dr. Cvjetičanin had put into the promotion of a global dialogue and cooperation in research on sustainable cultural development and into providing a forum for open discussion and diversity of voices of the Global North and the Global South.

With the establishment of the CULTURELINK Centre, the organization of this memorial conference and the preparation of a book dedicated to these topics within the Culturelink Joint Publication Series, we want to pay tribute to our esteemed colleague – Dr. Biserka Cvjetičanin.
