Dr. Aleksandra Uzelac and Dr. Dea Vidović took part in the 11th International Scientific Congress of the CEISAL network, which focuses on research in the social sciences in Latin America. This year’s congress, titled “Social, Environmental and Climate Justice in Latin America and the Caribbean,” took place from June 2 to 4, 2025, in Paris.
CULTMED collaborators Uzelac and Vidović presented their paper “Feminist Leadership as a Tool for Democratising Cultural Leadership” during a seminar dedicated to intersections, networks, and encounters between ecological justice, sustainability, cultures, and gender. The paper examines the necessity of rethinking the prevailing model of cultural leadership, characterized by centralized decision-making, control, and a hierarchical approach. Exploring the need for cultural leadership transformation, the paper focuses on the concept and practice of feminist leadership. It is recognized as a model that can democratize the traditional cultural leadership paradigm by redistributing power and responsibility structures and promoting an approach grounded in the principles of justice, solidarity, and care.
The congress featured research within 12 thematic areas: collective action, public policy, environment, rights, cultural studies, knowledge, urban studies, rural spaces, languages, migration, and international relations. The Paris congress was co-organized by members of the CEISAL network, the Institute of Latin American Studies at Sorbonne Nouvelle University, and its research centre, the Centre for Research and Documentation on the Americas.
